There is no “Uncoupling”
17 January 2008As the guy who first suggested that multinationals would do well despite the U.S. downturn, and because of global growth, I’d like to further suggest to all of my journalist and blogging friends to please forget the very stupid term, “uncoupled.”
The U.S. economy has never been more intimately coupled with the global economy, so the term is, truly, stupid.
Rather, the U.S. contribution to the global economy has reached a new fractional low (over the last fifty years).
If there is a good word for this, so be it. But “uncoupled” says, and implies, things which are not only untrue, but the reverse of what is true.
Perhaps we should call this situation, “post domination” economics, implying a time beyond that in which a single country, including the U.S., dominated.
